Account Service Keys

What is it?

Service Keys provide a simplified authentication solution for customers who need API access without the complexity of full app development. This feature replaces "legacy private apps" by rebuilding them on the modern Developer Platform infrastructure.

Why does it matter?

Connecting HubSpot to external tools like data warehouses, BI platforms, or automation services should be straightforward. Until now, setting up these connections required navigating developer workflows that were not designed for everyday users.

Service Keys solve this problem. Whether you are a marketing operations manager syncing data to Tableau, a sales analyst connecting to Power BI, or a revenue operations lead automating reports, you can now create secure API credentials yourself without waiting on developers or learning complex tools.

Allowing you to:

  • Connect to third-party tools like Tableau, Power BI, and data warehouses in minutes
  • Maintain secure, scoped access to only the data your integrations need
  • Keep integrations running smoothly with keys that don't expire when employees leave
  • Stay in control with built-in activity logging and easy key rotation

How does it work?

In order to access the Service Keys UI and create/manage them, you'll need to be granted the "Developer tools access" permission or have a Developer Seat assigned by your account administrator

Finding Service Keys

You can view all your account's service keys in one place by navigating to Settings > Integrations > Service Keys.

Creating a New Key

  1. Click Create service key
  2. Give your key a descriptive name (e.g., "Tableau - Marketing Data Sync")
  3. Select the permissions your integration needs (e.g., read contacts, read deals)
  4. Click Create and copy your new key
  5. Paste the resulting service key into your external tool to start syncing data

Managing Your Keys

  • View activity: See when each key was last updated and monitor API calls
  • Rename: Update key names to keep things organized as your integrations grow
  • Rotate: Generate a new key value when needed, with a 7-day grace period to update your integrations
  • Delete: Remove keys you no longer need to keep your account secure

Keeping Your Account Secure

  • Users can only view or copy tokens for the keys they have created (admins can view and copy/manage all Service Keys in an account)
  • Each key only has access to the specific data permissions selected during initial setup or after it's been updated
  • All key activity is logged so it can be audited at anytime
