Knowledge Base API

What is it?

The Knowledge Base API lets developers programmatically create and manage articles in HubSpot knowledge bases. The API covers creating, retrieving, updating, and publishing articles, plus read access to knowledge base settings, categories, and tags with 15 new endpoints.

Why does it matter?

If you manage a large knowledge base or build tooling on top of HubSpot content, you currently have no programmatic path. Every article has to go through the HubSpot UI.

With the knowledge base API, you can:

• - Run bulk content imports
• - Sync from external documentation systems
• - Manage article lifecycles programmatically
• - Build AI-powered content generation pipelines

How does it work?

The API exposes four resource types:

• - Knowledge bases: list all knowledge bases in an account and retrieve their settings, language, domain, and access type.
• - Articles: Create, retrieve, update, and unpublish articles. New articles are created as DRAFT and require a separate publish step.
• - Drafts: Retrieve, update, and publish draft versions independently, allowing staged edits before going live.
• - Categories & Tags: Read-only access to the organizational structure of a knowledge base, including parent/subcategory relationships.

Setup requirements

• - An existing knowledge base configured in HubSpot
• - An OAuth app with the following scopes:
  •    - cms.knowledge_base.articles.read(all GET and list endpoints)
  •    - cms.knowledge_base.articles.write(creating and updating articles)
  •    - cms.knowledge_base.articles.publish(publishing and unpublishing articles)

Who gets it?

Knowledge base is available for HubSpot Service Hub Professional and Enterprise accounts.
