Sunset of Legacy Public App Creation

Written by Catalin Vlad | Jun 23, 2026 1:49:53 PM

What is it?

HubSpot is permanently disabling the ability to create new legacy public apps through the Developer Platform UI. This change rolls out on two different dates depending on the age of your account:

- New developer accounts (created on or after May 26, 2026): Legacy public app creation will be disabled on May 26, 2026

- Existing developer accounts (created before May 26, 2026): Legacy public app creation will be disabled on June 23, 2026

All new public app development should use HubSpot's Projects-based app platform.

Your existing legacy public apps are not affected and will continue to function as-is. This change only removes the ability to create new ones. Migration of existing legacy public apps to the new platform is a separate initiative with its own timeline. Existing or new legacy private apps will also not be impacted at this time.

Why does it matter?

Legacy public apps were built on an older architecture that is increasingly difficult to secure and maintain. Moving new creation for these types of apps to the Projects-based platform strengthens the security of the HubSpot app ecosystem and gives developers access to a richer, more capable toolset — including CLI-based workflows, UI extensions, app cards, and better deployment tooling.

This change ensures that all new marketplace apps are built on a platform HubSpot actively invests in, with a clear long-term roadmap.

How does it work?

To create new apps intended to be listed in the marketplace, use the HubSpot CLI with project-based tooling. Follow the developer documentation to set up your environment and create your first project-based app.

Existing legacy public apps remain fully functional and do not need to be migrated at this time. A separate migration initiative with its own timeline and tooling will address moving existing legacy public apps to the new platform.
